Yellowstone National Park is closed to vehicles during the wintertime due to tremendous amounts of snowfall, dangerous weather conditions and unmaintained roads. The 2015 fee schedule for the park is $25 for a private, noncommercial vehicles and an additional $12 for each visitor that is 16 years and older. This pass is good for seven days and allows visitors to stay outside the park, which is substantially more affordable than staying within the park’s boundaries. Additionally, this year the National Park Service is offering nine free visiting days, which includes January 19 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, February 14-19 President’s Day weekend, April 18-19 National Park Week’s opening weekend, August 25 National Park Service’s 99th birthday, September 26 National Public Lands Day and November 11 Veteran’s Day.
Staying offsite and outside the park is a great way to explore nearby areas. West Yellowstone campgrounds are located near the city of West Yellowstone, which offers convenient access to Yellowstone’s West Entrance.
